St. Luke’s Launches Weekly Social Support Program for Seniors

The Socializing Seniors Virtually Program has begun at St. Luke’s Anglican Church and Community Centre.  Our Seniors Food Delivery program is already underway each Thursday. Next, our Socializing Seniors Virtually Group Program will start on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at 11:00 am. This program will feature weekly group and individual socials, as well as workshops hosted by Gabriella Mostacci Tolic, RP, MACP. Seniors across Oakville and Halton are welcome to register and attend.

Activities in the Socializing Seniors Virtually Program are made possible thanks to funding from the Ontario Seniors Community Grant, to whom we are immensely grateful. Starting weekly on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at 11:00 am, we will offer seniors a variety of social connections online.

The other portion of this project, St. Luke’s Food Delivery Program, runs in partnership with Food for Life as part of our current Nourishing Neighbours Program. Fresh food packages are delivered every Thursday straight to seniors’ homes. The program started in January and will be running through until the end of March. Volunteers and staff for the program provide friendly, compassionate, and contactless service to neighbours who need support. Registration is required for this program.

Socializing Seniors Virtually was first proposed in the summer of 2020 as a way of reconnecting seniors who had become isolated due to the pandemic. The project’s objectives match the Seniors Community Grant’s goals of “addressing social isolation and helping older adults stay healthy, safe, and active in their communities.” Without their support, our program would not be possible.

St. Luke’s Community Centre opened in 2016 as an outreach project of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, hosting a variety of programs and events for seniors and people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds, faiths, genders, and sexualities. Although our facilities and programs have temporarily closed, we are thankful to be able to connect with and assist those in need during this challenging time, and we look forward to the time when we can offer these services in person again.

To register for our food delivery program or for our online social groups please contact Monique Gaudet at office@stlukepalermo.ca. We look forward to seeing you!
